An alternative reward is a special reward that is a replacement for a magic item. In general, an alternative reward takes the place of a magic item (as if it were a magic item itself), may be used alongside other magic items, occupy the same game design space, and generally lasts for five levels before they fade. There are three types of boons provided as suggestions:
- Divine boons, which are generally awarded when one of the gods takes personal interest i an event.
- Legendary boons, which are awarded for completing a task
- Grandmaster Training, which is obtained through training.
