Bugbear is a monster race in 4th edition Dungeons & Dragons.[MM:135] It can also be used as a player character race at a Dungeon Master's discretion.[MM:276]
Racial traits[]
As a player character race, bugbears receive the following racial traits.
- Oversized
- Bugbears can wield weapons of the same size, or of one size larger as though they were the same size.
- Predatory Eye
- Bugbears gain the predatory eye racial power. Predatory eye is an encounter power that, as a minor action, add +1d6 bonus damage per tier to the next attack against a target granting combat advantage.
Variants[]
Oversized tends to be powerful enough to unbalance the game, and some players prefer having a more complete racial options.

- Ability scores: +2 strength, and +2 dexterity or +2 constitution
- Skill bonuses: +2 Intimidate and +2 Perception
- Oversized is removed as a racial trait and replaced with Powerful Grip.
- Powerful grip: +2 bonus an attempts to grab, and +2 bonus to checks involving climbing.
Six custom feats and a custom paragon path are also provided.
