Sneak Attack is a rogue class feature.
Once per turn, when a rogue with the Sneak Attack class feature attacks with a hand crossbow, shortbow, or weapon from the light blade or sling weapon groups, and hits an enemy granting combat advantage to the rogue, the attack deals extra damage. The amount of extra damage is determined by the rogue's level:
- Level 1-10 2d6
- Level 11-20 3d6
- Level 21-30 5d6
Characters with the Rogue Tactics class feature who select its Ruthless Ruffian option can also use a club or a mace to deal Sneak Attack damage.[MP:73]
Sneak Attack originally worked with any weapon from the light blade, crossbow, or sling weapon groups, but only once per round.[PH:117] Essentials changed Sneak Attack from once per round to once per turn. After WotC published their Essentials line of products Sneak Attack worked if the rogue wielded a shortbow or a hand crossbow rather than any crossbow.[HotFL:174]
