War Wizards of Cormyr are part of an elite order of mages under the Crown of Cormyr that focus on battle magic. They are often paired with the armies of Cormyr, such as the Purple Dragon Knights, to protect their land from their neighboring kingdoms. In this service, a wizard must undergo militaristic training to hone their abjuration and evocation spells to maintain effectiveness and tactical advantages. This training and war environment has caused many of them to become master tacticians.[1][FRPG:69]
Most war wizards are Cormyrians, but there are wizards that come from foreign lands seeking interest in what knowledge the War Wizard Academy of Cormyr has to offer for their own armies. Although, during this training process, each war wizard must swear fealty to the crown, or their training will be halted. Those that wish to become adventurers or return to their lands are free to do such, but they must care for matters that affect Cormyr as they may be requested to aid the crown in times of war.[1][FRPG:69]
